4 burnt as pickets torch bus in Moulvibazar 20 BNP - Jamaat men held in Dhaka in 24hrs


At least four passengers were burnt as pickets torched a bus in Borolekha upazila of Moulvibazar this morning. The arson attack took place on the fifth day of the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s 120-hour hartal enforced on top of the countrywide blockade.
Meanwhile, police detained 20 activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, in the 24 hours this morning on charges of subversive acivities from different places of Dhaka. In Moulvibazar, the Dhaka-bound bus starting from Biyanibazar area of Sylhet came under the arson attack in Basherbazar area of the upazila around 8:30am, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

“The blockaders first asked all the passengers to get down from the bus and then set it afire pouring petrol,” Azizul Haque, an officer of local fire service office, said quoting the witnesses. Four passengers received minor burn injuries while rushing to get down from the bus, he added.

The victims were taken to Borolekha Upazila Health Complex for treatment. No one was arrested in connection with the incident, said Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Borolekha Police Station.
