Jatiya Sramik League men hold near Khaleda’s office

Activists of Jatiya Sramik League held a demonstration near BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka after police foiled their bid to lay siege to the office demanding immediate withdrawal of nationwide ongoing blockade and hartal (shutdown).

Vehicular movement through road No. 86 in Gulshan-2 remained halted for 35 minutes following the demonstration.

The Sramik League activists started for Khaleda’s office in a procession but police resisted them by putting barricades in front of Gulshan Model School and College, few yards off the office, reports our correspondent from the spot.

In face of police resistance, the activists started the demonstration there at around 12:15pm.

They left the place at about 12:50pm after a peaceful demonstration.

Sramik League, labour wing of the ruling Awami League, announced the siege laying programme on February 5 as the BNP-led 20-party alliance is observing a nonstop blockade from January 6 demanded a fresh election under a neutral administration.
